Diamonds are probably the most majestic of all gemstones. According to some legends, it has been known in India for 6,000 years, but more likely, the first specimens were discovered in Indian alluvial deposits over 2,000 years ago. A divine symbol of perfection, its beauty and purity have made it sacred in the eyes of peoples and religions. Considered the "fruit of the stars" by the Indians, it was soon attributed magical powers.
