Corail
The term "coral" refers to all marine organisms of the cnidarian species, which makes it an imprecise term given the major differences within each family and the inherent ecological requirements. The coral used in jewellery is corallium rubrum (red coral). The red coral appeared during the Cambrian period at the beginning of the Palaeozoic era - i.e. 540 million years ago - and is a living carnivorous animal organism. It feeds by filtering eggs, larvae and copepods from plankton.
